Spare a thought, then, for Brian Cowen, the Taoiseach, whose naked form has been exhibited in two paintings hung mysteriously in galleries in Ireland. And what a form - too many state dinners to be sure. BBC story here. The canvases have been taken down, lest the dignity of the Irish state be too badly tarnished. Sir Compton thinks that Mr Cowen is not long for leadership; no politician can withstand such contempt and ridicule for long, even ones with rhino skins and no sense.
One rather hopes for something similar at the National Gallery: the Home Secretary in her fripperies mounting a police horse, or dear Mr Brown stealing from - and then strangling - the poor in a workhouse scene. Something tasteful and not too far fetched ought to do it.

Except that RTÉ have been forced to apologise to Cowen and for any disrespect shown to the office of An Taoiseach. Because any office held by the likes of Biffo, Bertie, CJH &c &c is obviously some sort of sacred bond with the Irish people.

In Britain one would not expect that initial level of mockery. But then not even the Beeb would be quite so craven afterwards. (Goes off to find footage of John Redwood singing the Welsh national anthem or Neil Kinnock's rally in Sheffield to make sure).
Nevertheless, this does seem to be a particularly powerful form of ridicule and Biffo, let's be honest, is somewhat less of an operator than Bertie or CJH. Putting the frighteners on RTE just makes matters worse.
