And so farewell, then, Blundering Bob Quick, who showed a list of secrets to the press, was intemperate in his comments about the Tories after having Damian Green roughed up and whose wife has some sort of car hire business running in their front yard. Not a suitable man to give the impression - the impression, hah! - of authority. Whether the new bloke will be any good, I can't say...but he couldn't pin cash for honours on to Blair/Levy/Turner.
In other police news, the plod who shoved Mr Tomlinson in the back has made himself known to the IPCC. So much for my opining yesterday - but there'll still be a lot of wriggling off the hook by all parties on this one.
The sense with policing is that certain sections work on an Us and Them basis, the Them being us. Actually, they are a service, not a force but work in an era when the power and scope of public sector authority has become so over-arching that they think they can get away with just about anything. Mostly uncorrupt, officers have become corrupted by the form-filling security-obsessed culture. Don't really know where this argument is going, but know that I am no longer surprised by venality and incompetence in every arm of authoritarian public service. These people wouldn't last two minutes in the private sector, and yet the private sector is propping them up. Oh dear.
